Which languages can be translated on a live video call?

Where the list comes from

A language is on the list only when all three steps of a translated call can handle it: recognising the speech, translating the sentence, and speaking the translation in a natural voice. The catalogue is the table the software itself uses, rather than a list assembled for marketing.

That is a meaningful difference. The number on the languages page is read from the same table the calls run on, so the page cannot drift into claiming a language that would not actually work on a call. It also means the list is not ours to extend by wishing: a language joins when every step can carry it, and not before.

Which language pair works best?

The heavily-resourced European pairs — English with Spanish, French, Portuguese, German or Italian — are the most reliable, because they have the most training data behind them.

English↔Spanish is the pair this product was validated on end to end, on real hardware, in both directions. Everything else in the catalogue runs through the same path, but that pair is the one that has been exercised hardest.

Languages with less digital text behind them, or with heavy dialect variation, are correspondingly more variable. Tone and register travel worse than plain meaning in every pair.

Does every package include every language?

Yes. No language sits behind a larger purchase.

This is worth stating because tiered access to languages is common elsewhere, and it is a pricing structure rather than a technical constraint.

Can the language be changed during a call?

No. The host's language is set when the room is created. The guest's is either set by the host at the same time or chosen by the guest on the screen before they join. Once the call starts, both stay as they are.

If two people share a language, there is nothing to translate and the call carries their own audio directly.
