How to set up a translated video call from Claude

Connect VideoCallTranslator to Claude once, then ask Claude to set up a call: it creates a room on your account and gives you two links, one to send to the person you are calling and one that starts the call for you.

What can Claude do with VideoCallTranslator?

Four things, each one a tool Claude uses when you ask:

  • Set up a call. Claude creates a room on your account, in your language and, if you say it, the other person's, and gives you the room's two links.
  • List your rooms. Your open rooms, with their languages, the date of their last call, and their links. A room can be used again and again.
  • Check your minutes. How many translation minutes you have left, and where to buy more.
  • List the languages. The 41 languages a call can use.

The call itself happens on videocalltranslator.com, in the browser, exactly as it does without Claude. Claude prepares it; you open it.

What can't Claude do?

Claude cannot start, join or listen to a call, and it never hears what is said on one. It does not send invitations: you send the guest link yourself, by WhatsApp, text message, email, or however you usually talk to that person. It cannot buy or spend minutes either. Minutes are bought on the pricing page, and used only while both people are connected on a call.

Creating a room is free, so asking Claude to set one up costs nothing until you talk.

How do I connect VideoCallTranslator to Claude?

You need a VideoCallTranslator account, the one you host calls from. Create one if you have not; new accounts start with 30 free minutes. Then:

  1. Open VideoCallTranslator in Claude's connector directory and press Connect. You can also find it in Claude under Settings, then Connectors, by searching for VideoCallTranslator.
  2. Claude opens our sign-in page. Sign in with Google, or with your email and password.
  3. Our approval page names Claude and lists what it will be able to do: create rooms, read your rooms, and read your minutes balance. Press Allow.
  4. Back in Claude, ask for what you want, for example "Set up a translated call with my grandmother, she speaks Spanish."

Nothing on your account is shared with Claude until you press Allow.

What can I ask Claude?

  • "Which languages can a VideoCallTranslator call use?"
  • "Set up a translated call with my grandmother, she speaks Spanish."
  • "Create a room called Weekly client call. I speak English and my client speaks Japanese."
  • "Show my VideoCallTranslator rooms."
  • "How many translation minutes do I have left?"

If you do not say which language the other person speaks, they choose it on the screen they see before joining. If you do not say yours, the room uses the language set on your account.

What does Claude see?

The list of call languages. When you ask for them, your open rooms: the names you gave them, their languages, the date of their last call, and their links. The rooms it creates for you, and their links. And your minutes balance. It never receives your email address, your guests' names, your call history, anything said or shown on a call, or your payment details.

What Claude receives becomes part of your conversation with it, which Anthropic keeps under its own privacy policy. That includes room links. Anyone with a room's link can join that room's calls while you are in it, so if a link has gone somewhere it should not, close the room from your account and its link stops working. The full wording is in our privacy policy.

How do I disconnect Claude?

On VideoCallTranslator, go to Account → Settings → Connected assistants and press Disconnect. Claude's access ends at once.

Removing the connector inside Claude stops Claude using it, but the connection may stay listed on your account until it expires. A connection unused for 30 days expires by itself, and deleting your account ends every connection.

What if it does not work?

  • Claude asks you to reconnect. Connect again from Claude's connector settings and press Allow. It happens after you disconnect from your account page, or after 30 days without use.
  • Claude answers from its own knowledge instead. Check that the connector is switched on for the conversation, and name VideoCallTranslator in your request.
  • Claude cannot create a room. There is a limit on how many rooms an account can create in an hour. Your existing rooms all still work, and Claude can list them.

For anything else, write to contact@videocalltranslator.com or use the support page.
