How to set up a translated video call from Grok
Add VideoCallTranslator to Grok once as a custom connector, using the address https://videocalltranslator.com/mcp, then ask Grok to set up a call: it creates a room on your account and gives you two links, one to send to the person you are calling and one that starts the call for you.
What can Grok do with VideoCallTranslator?
Four things, each one a tool Grok uses when you ask:
- Set up a call. Grok creates a room on your account, in your language and, if you say it, the other person's, and gives you the room's two links.
- List your rooms. Your open rooms, with their languages, the date of their last call, and their links. A room can be used again and again.
- Check your minutes. How many translation minutes you have left, and where to buy more.
- List the languages. The 41 languages a call can use.
The call itself happens on videocalltranslator.com, in the browser, exactly as it does without Grok. Grok prepares it; you open it.
What can't Grok do?
Grok cannot start, join or listen to a call, and it never hears what is said on one. It does not send invitations: you send the guest link yourself, by WhatsApp, text message, email, or however you usually talk to that person. It cannot buy or spend minutes either. Minutes are bought on the pricing page, and used only while both people are connected on a call.
Creating a room is free, so asking Grok to set one up costs nothing until you talk.
How do I add VideoCallTranslator to Grok?
You need a VideoCallTranslator account, the one you host calls from. Create one if you have not; new accounts start with 30 free minutes. VideoCallTranslator is not one of Grok's featured connectors, so you add it yourself, once:
- In Grok on the web, open Connectors and press New Connector, then choose Custom.
- Enter the name VideoCallTranslator and the server address https://videocalltranslator.com/mcp, then press Add Connector.
- Grok opens our sign-in page. Sign in with Google, or with your email and password.
- Our approval page lists what Grok will be able to do: create rooms, read your rooms, and read your minutes balance. Press Allow.
- Back in Grok, ask for what you want, for example "Set up a translated call with my grandmother, she speaks Spanish."
The approval page says "This assistant gave its own name, Grok. We cannot verify it." That is expected: Grok introduces itself by name rather than with a published address, and the page says so for every assistant that does. It also names the website your access goes to, which should be Grok's. Nothing on your account is shared with Grok until you press Allow.
To let Grok see your rooms and minutes but not create rooms, untick Create new rooms on your account before pressing Allow.
Can a Grok Business team use it?
Yes. On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin adds custom connectors for the team, with the same address, https://videocalltranslator.com/mcp. Each person then connects their own VideoCallTranslator account through the sign-in and approval pages above, so nobody sees anyone else's rooms or minutes.
What can I ask Grok?
- "Which languages can a VideoCallTranslator call use?"
- "Set up a translated call with my grandmother, she speaks Spanish."
- "Create a room called Weekly client call. I speak English and my client speaks Japanese."
- "Show my VideoCallTranslator rooms."
- "How many translation minutes do I have left?"
If you do not say which language the other person speaks, they choose it on the screen they see before joining. If you do not say yours, the room uses the language set on your account.
What does Grok see?
The list of call languages. When you ask for them, your open rooms: the names you gave them, their languages, the date of their last call, and their links. The rooms it creates for you, and their links. And your minutes balance. It never receives your email address, your guests' names, your call history, anything said or shown on a call, or your payment details.
What Grok receives becomes part of your conversation with it, which xAI keeps under its own privacy policy. That includes room links. Anyone with a room's link can join that room's calls while you are in it, so if a link has gone somewhere it should not, close the room from your account and its link stops working. The full wording is in our privacy policy.
How do I disconnect Grok?
On VideoCallTranslator, go to Account → Settings → Connected assistants and press Disconnect beside Grok. Its access ends at once.
Removing the connector inside Grok stops Grok using it, but the connection may stay listed on your account until it expires. A connection unused for 30 days expires by itself, and deleting your account ends every connection.
What if it does not work?
- Grok asks you to sign in again. Open the connector in Grok and connect again, then press Allow. It happens after you disconnect from your account page, or after 30 days without use.
- Grok cannot reach the server. Check the address is exactly https://videocalltranslator.com/mcp, ending in /mcp, not /sse.
- Grok answers from its own knowledge instead. Check that the connector is switched on for the conversation, and name VideoCallTranslator in your request.
- Grok cannot create a room. There is a limit on how many rooms an account can create in an hour, and a read-only connection cannot create any. Your existing rooms all still work, and Grok can list them.
For anything else, write to contact@videocalltranslator.com or use the support page.
Common questions
Is VideoCallTranslator in Grok's connector list?
Not among Grok's featured connectors. You add it yourself as a custom connector in Grok, under Connectors, New Connector, Custom, with the address https://videocalltranslator.com/mcp.
Can Grok start a translated video call for me?
No. Grok creates the room and gives you its links. You open the host link to start the call, and the other person opens the guest link. Grok cannot join or listen to a call.
Does the person I am calling need Grok or an account?
No. They open the guest link in any browser, on a phone or a computer, with no app and no account.
Does connecting Grok cost anything?
No. Connecting and creating rooms are free. Translation minutes come from your prepaid balance only while both people are connected on a call.
Grok is a trademark of xAI. Grok's settings are described as they were on 24 October 2026 and may change. VideoCallTranslator is operated by Sevenfires AI LLC.
