Do you need an app for a translated video call?
No. The person you invite opens your room link in whatever browser they already have, on a phone, tablet or laptop, and joins the call — no download, no account, and nothing to set up.
What the guest needs
A link and a browser. That is the whole list.
When you create a room, you get one URL. Send it however you already talk to that person — a text message, WhatsApp, email, a calendar invite. They tap it, their browser asks permission to use the camera and microphone, and they are in the call.
They are not asked to create an account, confirm an email address, or install anything. This matters more than it sounds: the moment a call requires the other person to download something, somebody has to explain how, usually over a worse connection than the one they were trying to improve.
What the host needs
An account on the site, and nothing else installed.
The host signs in, creates the room, and shares its link. The account exists for two reasons: the room has to belong to somebody, and translation minutes are charged to the person who opened the room rather than split across everybody in it.
The host works in a browser too. There is no desktop application and no mobile app on either side.
Why is it built this way?
Because the guest is usually the person with the least patience for setup, and often the person you are least able to talk through it.
A translated call is frequently between a family member abroad, a client in another country, or somebody you have never met. Asking them to install software before a first conversation loses most of them. Asking them to tap a link loses almost none.
The trade is that the browser has to do real work — capture audio, hold a live connection, play translated speech back — so a modern browser and a reasonable connection matter more here than they would for a text chat.
Which browsers work?
Any current browser with camera and microphone access: Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, and the browsers built into iOS and Android.
The call screen was built for a phone first and then widened for a desktop, rather than the other way round, because a shared link is usually opened on a phone.

Does the person I invite need an account?
